Conductor G. Edward Bruner holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in
Conducting and Musicology
from the University of Illinois and Master of Music and Bachelor of Music
Education degrees in
Vocal Performance and Composition from Drake University Conservatory of
Music. His vocal
training includes study with William Warfield, Jon Humphrey, and John
Wustmann. His areas of
specialization include early music, baroque music, and music of the 20th and
21st Centuries.
As a Countertenor, he has performed with the Cleveland Chamber Orchestra
(premier and CD of
Songs of Loss by American micro-tonal composer, Ben Johnston), St. Paul
Chamber Orchestra,
Estonia State Symphony (CD of Bernstein's Chichester Psalms), Nebraska
Chamber Orchestra,
Irvine Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Chorale (premier and CD of Bernstein's
final version of
Missa Brevis), Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra, Musica Angelica, Los Angeles
Bach Orchestra,
and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
Dr. Bruner has held academic appointments as Director of Choral Studies,
Professor of Graduate
and Undergraduate Conducting and Literature, Professor of Music History, and
Conductor in the
Schools of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of
Wisconsin-Eau
Claire. He served ten seasons as Co-Artistic Director and Conductor of the
London-Loch
Lomond Music Festival, performed twelve seasons with the Los Angeles Master
Chorale, and
six seasons with the Los Angeles Music Center Opera. Presently, he is an
adjunct professor of
choral music at the University of California-Riverside, and is the Musical
Director and
Conductor of the Los Angeles Collegium Musicum and Vox Profundis.
In his spare time he has served as an assistant high school basketball coach
and head golf coach,
coached Little League baseball, and National Junior All-Net Basketball. For
the past 21 years on
Tuesday evenings, "Fast Eddie" has continued to attempt three-point shots in
an Orange County
basketball league.
